In early summer 2023, we held a Festival of Involvement featuring a series of conversations with local people about how we can work together to shape and improve our services.

About the Festival

We looked at a range of services and topics over the Festival, exploring opportunities to get involved in different areas of adult social care.

Some sessions were in person during the day and others were in the evening on zoom. At each event, we had an open conversation about how we could best work together on the topic and identified some key issues to look at.

The programme

Who took part

We wanted to talk to a wide range of people reflecting the diversity of our city so it was important to look at the profile of participants.

Over 70 people took part in ten events, including 53 community members. Around 80% had not taken part in a Council-run adult social care involvement activity in the past year.

Of those who completed an equalities monitoring form:

  • people lived in 11 different postcode area
  • ages ranged from mid 30s to mid 90s and covered each decade in between
  • there was an equal number of women and men but no one identifying as non-binary
  • 10% were members of the LGBTQ community
  • over 60% had a disability
  • a quarter were unpaid carers
  • Only 1 person was of Black, Asian or minoritised ethnic heritage.

Next steps

Involvement opportunities are now being developed from the ideas from each session and will be added to the related plans.

All the insights and suggestions have also been summed up on our Festival ideas board below, which you can add to, comment on and 'like'.

This will all feed into our citizens involvement project in Autumn 2023, where we will coproduce a new service-wide approach to involving people across adult social care.
