What we've been doing - Week 1
Raising awareness online In our first week we had over 600 visits to this page. We’re really keen to keep up momentum so please help us to share this survey far and wide. We’re seeing some really interesting comments coming through in the survey responses and we’ll share some key points next week.Speaking to the people of SheffieldWe’ve also been out to Richmond Fun Day on Wednesday and Moor Market on Thursday to speak to local people about the strategy and what it might mean for them. Some of the big themes we’re hearing are: People want more activities and spaces for young people People want safer, cleaner spaces to come together more generally And here are some quotes from what we heard in our conversations: “We need services that overlap” “I’ve been passed from team to team” “The people of Sheffield are more lively, more welcoming and more open to me!” “People need to know what’s out there” An easier to read summary We also received an email to say that we needed a version of the strategy that’s easier to read, so we’ve written a new summary using plain English. This version is roughly reading age 11 and is a high level summary, so most of the detail will still be in the draft strategy document. We hope you find this useful and please continue to share your feedback.
Traffic Regulation Orders - 1 May 2025
So we can deliver the Connecting Sheffield: Nether Edge - City Centre project, we need several Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) in place. A TRO is a legal order which allows councils to change the way roads are used, such as regulating the speed limit, banning or enabling turns, making a road one-way or changing loading and waiting restrictions – these are often indicated by parking bays or yellow lines. The specific TROs for the Connecting Sheffield: Nether Edge - City Centre project include: A number of changes to double and single yellow lines throughout the area to make walking, wheeling and cycling easier and safer. A number of point closures and one-way sections for motor vehicles to help deliver the new walking, wheeling and cycling routes. Changes to on-street parking and loading restrictions. You can find full details of the Orders and more via the Sheffield City Council website under the ‘Proposed Traffic Orders’ section. There will be a formal period where you can comment on, support or object to the proposals until Wednesday 21 May. We must consider all feedback before we can make a TRO operational.
Culture Strategy Action Group - Meeting 1
The Culture Strategy Action Group is a direct response to the first outcome of the Culture Strategy Activation plan, which is: “A more equitable, collective leadership model is established leading to a better connected and coordinated culture sector”. As a group of people experienced in making culture happen every day, the CSAG will focus on what it can achieve collectively to strengthen and connect Sheffield’s cultural sector, whilst also helping to deliver the aims of the Culture Strategy. On Thursday 18th September a group of Sheffield creatives gathered at Utopia Theatre to help deliver the city’s new cultural vision. This is a new formation of people, brought together to create a new type of collaborative leadership to support the delivery of the Sheffield Culture Strategy. The Culture Strategy Action Group comprises 17 individuals from across the city, selected for their skills, knowledge of different artforms, and commitment to collaborative leadership. Some have deep community knowledge or lived experience of barriers to participation, others have pioneered city-wide initiatives, and a few have experience of working in Sheffield's formal cultural institutions. The skills and the connections each person brings will be valuable over the next three years as we work together to deliver a thriving, inclusive and diverse cultural sector with opportunities for creative expression and collaboration at all levels. In this first session, we started to get to know each other, expressed our hopes and fears for the group, and asked questions. For this session we mainly shared our perspectives about how we think we should work as a group, how we can best represent our colleagues and communities, and how we will be accountable. We learned what we each did and how we were connected to culture in Sheffield, and what we hope to achieve as a collective. We don't have all the answers yet, but we're looking forward to meeting again in November to get into the detail. We left feeling ‘the right amount of hopeful’. We have fears: about how we'll take action, how we'll communicate what we're doing, how we'll share wider perspectives, and that we don't want to be gatekeepers. But we also have hopes: we're optimistic, we feel more connected to each other, we're grateful for the opportunity, and we're excited by the potential and richness of what we’ve heard. We are leaving full of questions, but also hope for the future. You can meet the group here!

City centre journey surveys - April 2026
Following approval of our City Centre Access and Movement Plan in December, we will be doing some city centre journey surveys in May to support future proposals. The surveys will be done by cameras which will be installed from Monday 11 May. They will record data for all trips that enter and leave the city centre. Cameras will be installed in 37 locations on the edge of the city centre boundary. We will count all journeys made in these ways: Walking Cycling Mobility vehicles (including wheelchairs, mobility scooters and mobility trikes) E-scooters Mopeds and motorcycles Cars Taxis Light, medium and heavy goods vehicles Buses and coaches This data will help us understand how different journeys are made and will support plans for the evolution of our city centre transport network. No registration or personal data will be recorded.

Work on Derek Dooley Way - May 2026
As part of our Connecting Sheffield: Darnall–Attercliffe–City Centre project, which is improving transport links between Darnall, Attercliffe and the Lower Don Valley and the city centre, we will soon be starting work to create a right turn lane from Derek Dooley Way to Furnival Road / Effingham Road. What’s happening? From 8pm on Saturday 9 May to 6am on Sunday 10 May, Derek Dooley Way will be closed overnight in both directions between Sheffield Parkway and Wicker. This is so we can put traffic management in place for night working to create the right turn. This will begin on Monday 11 May, for around 15 weeks. We expect this phase of work to be complete by the end of August. Doing the work overnight allows us to reduce disruption for people travelling during the day along this busy route, and it also means our teams can work more safely. We will work from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday. We will also continue working over the weekends from Saturday 16 May. This will mean work can progress more quickly. Because there tend to be lower traffic volumes at the weekend, we will work during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7.30am to 4pm.Diversion routes – Saturday 9 MayTraffic will be diverted via the following signed diversion route:Savile Street – Attercliffe Road – Staniforth Road – Woodbourn Road – Cricket Inn Road / Broad Street – Park Square roundabout. You will still be able to access Quays Hotels via Park Square roundabout and Furnival Road.Travelling in the area from Monday 11 MayOnce the traffic management is in place, there will be two narrow traffic lanes running in both directions during the day. While we are working overnight and at weekends, one traffic lane will run in each direction. Please take extra care during roadworks. Allow more time for your journey, follow signed diversion routes, and drive within the speed limit to help keep everyone safe.
