Parking surveys and ground investigations - April 2026
Thank you to everyone who shared their views on our plans to improve Rock Street and Nottingham Street. We are now reviewing the feedback we received following our consultation to inform design. To develop our plans further, we now need to do some surveys in the area to get more detailed information about parking. We also need to understand what kinds of services and utilities are under the ground in the areas we would be looking to work.Parking surveysWe’re planning a parking survey along Rock Street, Nottingham Street and surrounding streets. We will install cameras to monitor parking in the area between Wednesday 29 April and Saturday 2 May.No personal information or registrations will be recorded.Ground investigationsSo we can understand the services and utilities under the ground, we will do some radar surveys from Tuesday 5 May.To do this, our contractor will be on site with small machinery that uses radar signals to show where cables and pipes are positioned. We expect radar surveys to take about a week to complete, and we’ll keep disruption to a minimum while we work. The results of radar surveys will tell us if and where we need to do any further ground investigations.Later on, we will need to dig some holes in pavements to get more detailed information about where cables and pipes are, and if they will impact our plans. We’ll provide updates when we know more about these works. We will keep you updated about those works on this page.

Resurfacing and kerbing works - April and May 2026
We have been working to install the new cycle route and new crossings at the junction of Sheffield Road and Blackburn Meadows Way. We now need to resurface a section of road near the junction. What is happening? To minimise disruption during the day, we need to do this work overnight. We will work from 7pm to 3.30am from Monday 13 April to Friday 17 April, and we expect to finish in the early hours on Saturday 18 April. Some of this work will be noisy, and we’ll aim to complete the noisiest work near Ferrars Road to reduce disruption over multiple nights. So our teams can work safely, we will need to close Sheffield Road between St Lawrence Road and Blackburn Meadows Way during these times. There will be a diversion in place. What are the diversions?Traffic travelling along Sheffield Road towards Sheffield will be diverted via Blackburn Meadows Way at the junction with Sheffield Road.Traffic travelling beyond St Lawrence Road towards Rotherham will need to use Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Way, Meadowhall Road and Meadowbank Road. The sections of Sheffield Road between Tinsley Roundabout and St Lawrence Road, and Centenary Way and Temple Road / Liberty Steel will be access only. Kerbing around the cycle route on Sheffield RoadLater in the project, we will need to add the kerbing to the cycle route on Sheffield Road. This will ensure the route matches the facilities that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has already installed. We will also need to do this work overnight to keep disruption to a minimum during the day. We will do this from Monday 11 May to Thursday 14 May, from 7pm to 3am, completing the work in the early hours on Friday 15 May.To complete this work, we will need to use the same road closure while we work. Please look out for signs showing diversion routes, and plan ahead if you are travelling in the area at these times. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will aim to complete both sets of work as quickly as possible. If you have any questions about the resurfacing, please get in touch via: Email: info@connecting-sheffield.co.uk 9am-5pm Freephone: 0808 196 5105 Freepost: Freepost Connecting SHF We will keep you up to date via this page.
