Resurfacing and kerbing works - April and May 2026
We have been working to install the new cycle route and new crossings at the junction of Sheffield Road and Blackburn Meadows Way. We now need to resurface a section of road near the junction.
What is happening?
To minimise disruption during the day, we need to do this work overnight. We will work from 7pm to 3.30am from Monday 13 April to Friday 17 April, and we expect to finish in the early hours on Saturday 18 April.
Some of this work will be noisy, and we’ll aim to complete the noisiest work near Ferrars Road to reduce disruption over multiple nights.
So our teams can work safely, we will need to close Sheffield Road between St Lawrence Road and Blackburn Meadows Way during these times. There will be a diversion in place.
What are the diversions?
Traffic travelling along Sheffield Road towards Sheffield will be diverted via Blackburn Meadows Way at the junction with Sheffield Road.
Traffic travelling beyond St Lawrence Road towards Rotherham will need to use Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Way and Blackburn Meadows Way.
The section of Sheffield Road between Tinsley Roundabout and St Lawrence Road will be access only.
Kerbing around the cycle route on Sheffield Road
Later in the project, we will need to add the kerbing to the cycle route on Sheffield Road. This will ensure the route matches the facilities that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has already installed.
We will also need to do this work overnight to keep disruption to a minimum during the day. We will do this from Monday 11 May to Thursday 14 May, from 7pm to 3am, completing the work in the early hours on Friday 15 May.
To complete this work, we will need to use the same road closure while we work.
Please look out for signs showing diversion routes, and plan ahead if you are travelling in the area at these times.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will aim to complete both sets of work as quickly as possible.
