Consultation has concluded

We want to be a more open and transparent council and as part of that, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved in local democracy.

Our Governance Committee working with citizens undertook a review of Council's approach to Public Questions. They have gathered information, heard your views on the Council's approach to Public Questions at meetings, and now have a set of proposed changes to be discussed at their next meeting on Wednesday 28th February,

If the committee is satisfied that the proposals meet the aspirations of citizens, councillors and officers, they will approve the approach and ask officers to work through the technical details to be finalised at Governance Committee in March, and then recommended to full Council for agreement at the AGM in May 2024.

The Governance Committee is 10am on Wednesday 28th February in the Town Hall.

Having carried out this work collaboratively with citizens, the Governance Committee before making a decision on recommendations, are keen to have citizen voice represented, to involve you, to know if you support the proposals for change, or not, or wish to suggest further change.

You can participate by attending and making a contribution at the meeting - please check out our current process for public questions on this link: Committee details - Governance Committee | Sheffield City Council . There will be a dedicated time in the meeting for contributions on this, it would be helpful if you could email in advance or complete the survey below, but not essential. Meetings of the Council are webcast, if you wish to follow the discussion.

You can read the proposals in the Committee papers on this link: Agenda for Governance Committee on Wednesday 28 February 2024, 10.00 am | Sheffield City Council

If you are unable to attend please submit your views on the proposals and recommendations via the button 'proposed changes to council's approach to public questions' link below, you are asked to do this by Wednesday 6th March, when this option for participation will close.

You are welcome to complete the survey with your views even if you do attend the meeting on 28th February.

Whichever way you choose to participate and provide comment your views will be taken into account before a final decision by Governance Committee on recommendations for proposed changes.

We are continuing to develop and improve the Committee System model based on the Design Principles that citizens and Members agreed. You can find the Design Principles here. You can read the Six-Month Review of Governance Arrangements in 2022/23 here.

In this survey for each of the recommendations listed you are asked to choose an option to agree, disagree with, neither agree or disagree, suggest a change. If you want to suggest a change to a recommendation please use the box at end of each page to say which one and give more information on what should be different. There is also a final box at the end of the survey, for further comments on changing our approach to public questions.
