School Streets is a new approach to improve road safety and air quality outside schools, whereby they are closed to traffic at the start and end of the school day. This helps to reduce congestion and improve air quality at the school gates, making it easier and safer to walk or cycle to school whilst creating a more pleasant environment for everyone.
There will be marshals managing the road closures using appropriate barriers and signage. Residents of these streets will be able to apply for a permit to give them access during the closure times.
Mundella Primary School have been chosen to trial a School Street, road closure scheme. This is because of ongoing problems with drivers parking dangerously, illegally, and inconsiderately. This puts all pupils’ safety at risk.
How will the School Street work?
Mundella Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from its junction with Derbyshire Lane.
The closure will operate Monday to Friday, term time only.
Closure times will be 8:15 to 9:15am in the morning and 14:45 to 15:45pm in the afternoon.
During these times vehicular traffic will not be allowed to enter Mundella Place via the closure point (exemptions do apply).
Residents living within the closed section of roads will always have access via a (free) permit scheme.
