FAQs
What will the closure look like?
At the closure point there will be signs either side of the road, stating a Pedestrian & Cycle zone along with the times the closure is in place. There will also be a physical barrier put out by trained staff who will be marshalling the closure whilst it is in operation.
What will I be able to do in these closure times?
Residents with a permit can enter and leave the area, although we would request you keep movements to a minimum for the children’s safety.
How do I get a permit?
The Council will give you a permit for you to place in your car. They will deliver one permit to each household directly affected by the closure. If multiple permits are required, please email schoolstreets@sheffield.gov.uk with the number you require and your address.
What if I am expecting a delivery?
Deliveries during the closure times will still be able to take place, the driver will just need to talk to the marshal at the closure point who will let them enter through the closure.
What if I am expecting carers / home helps / doctors / taxi?
As with deliveries if they present themselves to the Road Closure marshal at the closure point and show their identification, they will be able to enter the closed section.
What if myself or my child is disabled?
Blue badge holders will be exempt and just need to present themselves to the road closure marshal.
I drive a taxi, am I exempt?
If you are driving a taxi for work and are picking up or dropping of a resident living within the closed area OR contracted by SCC to pick up / drop off children, you will be given access.
Are there going to be children playing in the road?
NO. Pedestrians and children on scooters will use the pavement as usual, whilst cyclists can utilise the road (which will hopefully be much safer due to the reduction in vehicles). All children will receive a road safety briefing in school reminding them of how to stay safe on their journey to school.
Are the closure times really an hour?
The closure times maybe shorter than the time advertised; once most pupils have entered or left the school, then the Road Closure Marshal can decide to open the road up and normal traffic movements can resume.
