Have your say on future changes to your waste and recycling collection services
We invite you to have your say on your future waste and recycling bin collection services. Over the next few years, we will be making a number of changes to improve the recycling collection services you receive from your home. The changes will mean:
from March 2026 recycling collections will be introduced for plastic pots, tubs and trays, aluminium foil and cartons (tetra pac), and;
from March 2027 recycling collections will be introduced for flexible plastics (plastic bags and films).
We also want you to tell us if you would like to have a larger recycling bin for your paper and card.
It is really important that you have your say, because the feedback we receive from yourself, and other households across Sheffield, will help inform what your recycling collection service looks like in the future.
The consultation will close at 5pm on 11 November.
Why are the changes being made?
The changes are being made in response to the Environment Act 2021, which requires all local authorities to collect a common set of materials for recycling. The changes will make it easier to recycle and provide more consistency in recycling collections across England.
Why your views matter?
The outcome of this consultation will be used to inform future changes to your waste and recycling services. A report will be brought to a committee meeting in early 2025 which will seek approval to implement a new waste and recycling collection service that ensures compliance with the requirements of the Environment Act.
If you have any queries, need help with completing this survey, or require a paper copy, please contact us by email at wastemanagement@sheffield.gov.uk(External link) or call us on 0114 2037621
