Hi my name's John Smith,
Some of you might know me, I've ran the central Sheffield venue, The Open Door, for the last 20 years. I'm incredibly proud of being from Sheffield and the rich musical history that we've got in our city. I'm also particularly proud of my role in that. I've seen plenty of musical legends pass through my pub, many of them starting off in our tiny upstairs venue, putting on free gigs for their friends and family. We hosted the Arctic Monkeys very first gig when they were only a bunch of scruffy 17 year old lads but even then I could tell they were something special.
I've got no plans to quit anytime soon but I hope when I do there's someone as passionate and excited about the local music scene to take over running The Open Door and keep it's legacy alive, places like The Open Door are what make our city so brilliant, the places we gather, talk, dance, sing, make friends and memories, they're so much more than bricks and mortar, they're where we do our living, so please keep supporting them.
