Works in May 2026
In May, we will be installing kerbing along the cycle route on Sheffield Road. When is the work happening? We will do this from Monday 11 May to Thursday 14 May, from 7pm to 3am, completing the work in the early hours on Friday 15 May. We need to do this work overnight to keep disruption to a minimum during the day.To complete the work, we need to close a section of Sheffield Road between Blackburn Meadows Way and Liberty Steels. Access along Blackburn Meadows Way will also be closed during the works. What are the diversion routes?Traffic travelling beyond St Lawrence Road towards Rotherham will need to use Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Way, Meadowhall Road and Meadowbank Road. The sections of Sheffield Road between Tinsley Roundabout and St Lawrence Road, and Centenary Way and Temple Road / Liberty Steel will be access only. Bus diversions The X3 and 207 bus services will be affected during the hours we are working. The X3 service will divert via Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Way, Meadowhall Road and Meadowbank Road. First Bus has advised that this is the usual diversion route for the X3 service, being safer and more familiar to their drivers compared to other potential routes. The 207 towards Sheffield will divert via Bawtry Road, Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road and Meadowhall Way. Resurfacing works at the junction of St Lawrence Road, Ferrars Road and Sheffield Road Later in May and in early June, we will need to resurface the section of road at the junction of St Lawrence Road, Ferrars Road and Sheffield Road. We will do this work during the day on Sunday 31 May and Sunday 7 June. We will set up work from 7am, and will aim to start as far away from residential properties as possible to minimise disruption. So our teams can work safely, we will need to close Sheffield Road between the Hanfia Masjid And Islamic Cultural Centre car park access and Blackburn Meadows Way during these times. Access to the car park will remain open during the work. There will be a diversion in place. Diversion routes for 31 May and 7 June Traffic travelling along Sheffield Road towards Sheffield will be diverted via Blackburn Meadows Way at the junction with Sheffield Road. Due to the closure of St Lawrence Road at the junction with Sheffield Road, the 207 bus service towards Sheffield will divert via Bawtry Road, Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road and Meadowhall Way. Traffic travelling beyond St Lawrence Road towards Rotherham will need to use Sheffield Road, Vulcan Road, Meadowhall Way and Blackburn Meadows Way. The section of Sheffield Road between Tinsley Roundabout and the Hanfia Masjid And Islamic Cultural Centre car park access will be access only. Please look out for signs showing diversion routes, and plan ahead if you are travelling in the area at these times. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we will aim to complete both sets of work as quickly as possible.
