Parkwood Springs Access Road

Sheffield City Council is seeking feedback through a public consultation on proposals to improve access to Parkwood Springs Country Park and the former Ski Village site.

The proposals include a new access road linking Oakham Drive and Vale Road, alongside improvements at the Oakham Drive and Rutland Road junction.

Better access will help people reach Parkwood Springs more easily, support local businesses and help unlock future investment in the area, including the proposed outdoor leisure destination at the former Ski Village site from Skyline Enterprises.

Background

Parkwood is undergoing a long-term transformation to create an improved country park, enhance visitor facilities and support future leisure and recreation opportunities.

The new access road is proposed to:

• improve access to Parkwood and the former Ski Village site.
• provide more direct access to Parkwood Springs and the former Ski Village site.
• help improve connections between Parkwood Springs, local businesses and the wider transport network.
• improve access for local businesses
• enable future regeneration and investment within the area.

Why Is the Road Needed?

Current access arrangements can make it difficult to reach parts of Parkwood Springs and the former Ski Village site.

Improved access is considered important to:

• make it easier for residents and visitors to reach Parkwood Springs and future leisure attractions
• support existing businesses operating in the area
• help enable future investment and regeneration opportunities
• improve connections to and around the site for people travelling in different ways.

What Is Being Proposed?

The proposals currently being developed include:

• a new access road into the Parkwood country park connecting Oakham Drive and Vale Road.
• associated landscaping and environmental improvements.
• improvements to the Oakham Drive and Rutland Road junction, including new traffic signals and other highway measures designed to manage traffic movements associated with future development of the site.
• detailed designs of the highway works are continuing to be developed and may change following technical assessments and public feedback.

• business specific event – Wednesday 9 September – 12pm to 3pm at Steelyard (Bardwell Rd, Sheffield, S3 8AS)
• public consultation event alongside Skyline – Wednesday 9 September – 4pm to 7:30pm at Heist Brew Co. (107 Neepsend Lane, Neepsend, Sheffield, S3 8AT)

Next Steps

Following the consultation:

• Feedback will be reviewed and analysed.
• The design will be refined where appropriate based on consultation feedback.
• A consultation report with summary of consultation responses will be published.
• Any changes to initial proposals following public consultation will be published.
• The proposals will be presented to the relevant committees who will be responsible for deciding whether the scheme can progress.
• If approved, works to deliver the project will align with other milestones of the wider project.
