Sheffield City Council has drafted a new Older People’s Housing Strategy (plan), and we want to hear your views on it. Your feedback will be used to develop the final Strategy.

Our growing and increasingly diverse older population are workers, carers, volunteers, parents, and grandparents, and they play a key role in helping our city to prosper. The draft Strategy is focussed on supporting our older residents by helping to provide housing and support that makes it easier to live safe, well and independently in the home.

It has the same five themes as Sheffield’s Housing Strategy 2024-2034:

  • More homes and housing choice
  • Housing carbon emissions will have been reduced to net zero by 2030
  • Safe, good quality and comfortable homes
  • Great, safe neighbourhoods that people are happy to call home
  • Homes and housing services that end homelessness and support healthy, independent lives

But the Older People’s Housing Strategy is focused on improving housing choice and support for older adults living in all types of housing. It will also help to provide more alternatives to care homes.

The consultation is open to people of all ages, whether you rent or own your home, but we especially want to hear from older residents and partner organisations working across the housing, health, care, energy and voluntary sectors who provide homes and support that help older adults to live well in their home.

You can give your views by:

  • Completing one of our surveys for members of the public and partners
  • Sharing your thoughts on our ideas board
  • Taking a quick poll about some draft priorities we have identified

This consultation will end on 12th March 2025 and we will amend the draft Strategy based on what you tell us.

More information about the Strategy and why we think it is needed is available to read by clicking on the links on this page.

The survey is open to people of all ages, whether you rent or own your home, but we would particularly like to hear from older adults.

  • We have written a draft Strategy to make housing and housing services better for older people living in Sheffield.

A Strategy is a plan of things to be done to make things better over time.

We want to know what people think of our ideas in the plan and have some questions to ask you.

We would especially like to hear from older people aged over 65 years old.

We will use what you tell us to make changes and finish the plan.

Please answer as many questions as you can. The survey closes on Wednesday 12th March 2025.

    What happens to my feedback?

We do not ask for your name, so we will not know who you are from your answers.   We do ask some questions about you, like your age and who you live with so that we can see what different people say.
