This theme focuses on helping and supporting residents to live happy and healthy lives in the wards across the North East Local Area. Our aim is to provide more support and raise awareness by joining up services, promoting them and communicating activities in the area. In order to assess the needs of residents and to identify the gaps in support, we work with partners, residents, and services across the area.
Our priorities for this theme:
To help and support people to live an independent, fulfilled and happy life
To encourage and work together to improve access to health services for all
To improve leisure and sports facilities so that they meet the needs of all and are inclusive
To work together to provide more joined up support for vulnerable people
Ongoing projects:
Emergency First Aid at Work Training
The Northeast LAC paid for Emergency First Aid at Work training for the local Councillors for Firth Park, Southey, Shiregreen and Brightside and Burngreave as well as any Council Officers who are out in the community on a daily basis. The first session was on 20th May 2025. It was a full day session resulting in a formal qualification. Following this, staff will be able to respond confidently to an emergency situation that requires immediate first aid and ensure that members of the community are supported.
First Aid Awareness Training
The Northeast LAC is organising free First Aid Awareness training sessions for volunteer, community, and faith groups in the North-East Sheffield. Our first training session was delivered by the Yorkshire Ambulance Trust on Monday 16th September at Firth Park Methodist Church. It provided people with a better understanding of heart attacks, CPR, bleeding, choking, and strokes. If you were unable to attend this date, please email us at northeastLAC@sheffield.gov.uk and we will book you on to our next available course.
Mental Health Training
On Tuesday 17th June, the Northeast LAC paid for Sheffield Mind to deliver some Mental Health Training for our volunteer, community and faith groups. This training provided attendees with a good understanding of mental health and the issues that arise from poor mental health. It will enable them to spot the signs of mental health struggles within the community and provide adequate support. We will be holding 3 more Mental Health Training Session. If you volunteer in the Northeast community and you are interested in coming along, please email us at northeastLAC@sheffield.gov.uk and we will book you on to our next session.
Community Health Project
The Northeast LAC purchased and delivered blood pressure monitors and blood oxygen monitors to our welcome spaces and community buildings. We provide 2 sets of each so that one can remain in the building and the other can be loaned out as required.
