  • Dog Fouling Campaign

In partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, the Local Area Committee has funded the "Do It For Your Dog" campaign across specific sites in the North-East wards. As part of the social media campaign, a video featuring "Ben the Boxer" as the messenger was launched. Additionally, banners and signs have been displayed around Buckenham, Barrie Crescent, Foxhill Park, Hartley Brook shops, and near Wincobank Village Hall, reminding dog owners to pick up after their pets.

  • Environmental Stewardship Pilot

This pilot program was delivered in partnership with Amey, Streets Ahead, and the Lifelong Learning and Skills team. Six young people who were not in Employment, Education, or Training (NEET) participated in a 12-week program, spending two days a week with an Amey supervisor to clear sites across the North East of Sheffield. The sites cleared so far include Lytton Street, Chaucer Road, Longley Hall Road, Holgate Road, Wincobank Lane Playground, Merlin Way, Longley 4 Greens, and Nottingham Cliff Park.

Amey also provided the participants with necessary health and safety training, and the young people spent an additional day developing their math and English skills with the Lifelong Learning and Skills team.

Four of the young stewards found this experience valuable, with one securing an apprenticeship with Amey. Due to its success, we are pleased to extend the project to a second cohort. The program has also been expanded to other Local Area Committees (LACs) across the city.

  • Litter Picking Equipment and Volunteers

The Litter Picking project aims to promote a cleaner, more cared-for local area. Members of "Friends of" groups and litter-picking groups provided feedback requesting additional litter-picking equipment. In response, the North-East LAC funded and distributed this equipment to volunteers. The provided equipment includes trugs, hoops, gloves, rakes, wire cutters, secateurs, loppers, trolleys, yard brushes, high-visibility vests, and stickers.

We have also partnered with local schools, lending equipment for children to participate in litter-picking excursions in their communities. This initiative will continue when schools return in September.

Members of the public interested in helping to keep their community clean can now access free litter-picking equipment from participating local libraries, including Firth Park Library and Parsons Cross Library. If you know of any groups or volunteers who could benefit from this equipment, please contact the LAC team.

  • Fly Tipping and Graffiti Hot Spots

This project focused on improving several hotspot areas for fly-tipping and graffiti. With the assistance of the Environmental Stewards, the following areas in North-East Sheffield were targeted: Ecclesfield Road Lay-bys, Harleston Street, East Earsham Street, Petre Street, Ellesmere Green, Spital Hill, Pagehall Wensley, Longley 4 Greens, and Firth Park.
