The See it Be it in Sheffield team are committed to achieving a volunteer network which reflects and benefits from the diversity of Sheffield’s citizens. In line with the See it Be it message, we feel it is important for the young people participating in employer interactions to see themselves represented by the volunteers they are engaging with.
The first stage of this piece of work is to capture a snapshot of the diversity of our current employer network. As our core focus is on employability and promoting the life outcomes of Sheffield’s young people, we will be collecting data around employment status and sector, in addition to potential barriers to employment including disability and socioeconomic background. We will also be monitoring protected characteristics including sex, ethnicity, and age.
Once collated, this baseline data will be compared with Sheffield and National average demographics to identify areas where our volunteer network is lacking in diversity. This analysis will help us to understand where we need to work to build more representation, and inform our future recruitment strategies of volunteers to encourage engagement from all sections of society.
All findings and a summary of the collected data will be reported in the See it Be it in Sheffield diversity report, released in Q4 2023. To ensure continuous improvement in the diversity of our employer network, and hold ourselves accountable for continuous positive change, this will be an ongoing project. The survey will be distributed across our employer network for completion annually, followed by subsequent data analysis and publication of findings.
