Works at Shortridge Street - September 2026

As part of the Connecting Sheffield: Darnall – Attercliffe – City Centre project, we are improving streets to make them safer, greener and more welcoming for everyone.

The changes aim to support regeneration in the area, safer journeys and sustainable travel for local people, and will give you more choice in how you travel, whether you’re walking, wheeling, cycling or travelling by bus.

Works at Shortridge Street

As part of the next phase of works, Shortridge Street will be closed to motor vehicles at its junction with Attercliffe Road. This is expected to take effect on or shortly after 28 September.

The junction closure will create a safer and continuous route for pedestrians and cyclists, reducing conflict points between all road users, in an area where greater numbers of people are expected to be using Attercliffe high street.

Vehicle access to Shortridge Street will continue to be available from Attercliffe Road via Shirland Lane and Baltic Way, with vehicles able to load and unload in the dedicated loading bay provided on Shortridge Street.

Access and deliveries

We understand that access is important for residents, businesses, deliveries and customers.

As part of the wider DACC scheme:

  • a new 24-hour loading bay has been provided near the junction with Attercliffe Road
  • additional restrictions have been introduced to ensure access to the loading bay is always maintained
  • additional on-street parking will be available where space permits

Vehicle access to Shortridge Street will continue to be available via Baltic Way.

Keeping you informed

Advance notice signs will be placed in the area before works start.

We understand these changes may require some adjustment, but they are necessary to ensure work can be carried out safely.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we complete these improvements.

If you have any further questions, please email DACC.information@amey.co.uk. Phone between 9am-5pm from Monday to Friday on 07926 289768.
