Works at Main Road and Roundel Street - October and November 2026

As part of the Connecting Sheffield: Darnall – Attercliffe – City Centre project, we are improving streets to make them safer, greener and more welcoming for everyone.

The changes aim to support regeneration in the area, safer journeys and sustainable travel for local people, and will give you more choice in how you travel, whether you’re walking, wheeling, cycling or travelling by bus.

Works at Roundel Street

As part of the next phase of works, we’ll be coming to Roundel Street to carry out footway and kerb improvement works. These works will take place on or shortly after Monday 5 October from 8am until 5pm (weekdays only) for approximately four weeks.

Improvements include upgrading the existing crossing on Staniforth Road to a toucan crossing, making it easier and safer for people cycling to cross. New parking restrictions on parts of Roundel Street will help create a safer route for people walking, wheeling and cycling between Staniforth Road and the Attercliffe Supertram footbridge.

Works on Main Road

We’ll be coming to Main Road to carry out improvement works. The works involve improvements to the footway, kerbing, signage and road markings near Greenland Road to help reduce congestion and improve bus reliability. These works will take place on, or shortly after, Tuesday 3 November from 8am until 5pm on weekdays only, for approximately four weeks. Carriageway resurfacing will be carried out during the latter stages of the works and will take place for three nights.

Maintaining access and minimising disruption

The work will be completed in several smaller sections to help reduce disruption. Localised cones, barriers, road-narrows signs and temporary pedestrian routes will be introduced as work progresses. A temporary kerb ramp will also be provided where required.

Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.

Keeping you informed

Advance notice signs will be placed in the area before works start.

We understand these changes may require some adjustment, but they are necessary to ensure work can be carried out safely.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we complete these improvements.
