Charter Row and Moore Street works - July 2026

We are delivering the Connecting Sheffield: Nether Edge – City Centre project in two phases.

The City Centre phase focuses on Charter Row, Moore Street and Young Street. It will connect major new residential and employment developments so people can access jobs, homes, education and training opportunities more easily.

The project is part of wider improvements in our cleaner, greener, thriving city centre – making the area a more attractive place to stop, relax and spend time.

We will start preparation work on Monday 6 July.

For the first two weeks, we will work overnight to set up our work area. We will work from 9pm to 4am Monday to Thursday evenings.

We will work overnight initially to reduce the impact on traffic in the daytime, when this route is busier. We will do everything we can to minimise disruption overnight.

From Monday 20 July, we will work in the daytime from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

We expect all the works to be completed by July 2027.

How will I get to where I need to be?

There will be temporary traffic lights on each arm of the junction of Charter Row with Moore Street, Fitzwilliam Gate and Fitzwilliam Street.

While we are working, there will be temporary pedestrian crossings in use, and changes to footways. There will also be a diversion for people cycling through the area. Please follow signage and use marked crossings to cross the road.

Traffic will run in one lane in each direction along Charter Row and Moore Street, so please plan ahead and leave extra time for your journey. If you are travelling from Arundel Gate, your journey may be easier if you use Eyre Street and Moore Street to access Charter Row.

We will keep you updated via this page as the work progresses.
