Works in July 2026

As part of the Connecting Sheffield: Magna-Tinsley project, on Monday 13 July 2026, works will start around Meadowhall to make it easier for people to travel between Rotherham, Tinsley and Meadowhall.

What will the works include?

On Meadowhall Road, we will install new crossings for walking, wheeling and cycling, to help people to cross the road more safely and conveniently.

The works will begin near to the Sainsbury’s petrol station (North) and include:

Sainsbury’s petrol station – clearance of vegetation and installing tactile paving across the exit of the petrol station near to the rail bridge.
Meadowhall Road central islands – improving the path between the crossing points and installing the signal-controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings.
Alsing Road – upgrading the crossing to a signal-controlled crossing at the Alsing Road and Meadowhall Road junction.

Will there be road closures?
To ensure the works are safe, we need to narrow the traffic lanes and temporarily close lanes.

In the first few weeks, we will temporarily close lanes on Meadowhall Road. This is to remove the existing traffic signals and replace them with temporary ones.

We will narrow the exit from the petrol station near to the rail bridge. At some point, it will also be closed during the works to install the tactile paving.

Vehicles will still be able to exit the petrol station using the exit nearest the Meadowhall Interchange Coach and Bus station.

When will the works be completed?
The works will be completed by November 2026. We will make every effort to minimise disruption.
