Night working - 16 September 2026
We are continuing our work to make more space for people and make bus journeys more reliable in the city centre.
As part of our Connecting Sheffield: City Centre project, the new bus gate on Furnival Gate between Matilda Way and The Moor will go live on Saturday 19 September. In preparation for this, we need to add some new lines on the road and install some new signage.
We will do this work overnight on Wednesday 16 September. So our teams can work safely, we will need to close Furnival Gate from Matilda Way to Charter Row from 8pm to 5am.
If you need to travel from Arundel Gate to Charter Row during this time, you will need to use Eyre Street, Moore Street roundabout and the Inner Ring Road. You will still be able to use Matilda Way, which will remain open during the works.
Buses will also be diverted during the works, but we will finish in time for the first bus on Thursday 17 September to run as usual. Information will be added to affected stops in advance of the works, and you can find up to date public transport journey information on the Travel South Yorkshire website.
When the new bus gate goes live on Saturday 19 September, the existing bus gate on the other side of the road between Pinstone Street and Union Street, will be switched back on too. You can find more information about the bus gates in our news article.
