Busking Street Performance, & Street Preaching

We want our city centre to be a safe, vibrant, and welcoming place for everyone who lives, works and visits there.

We recognise that street entertainment such as busking can enhance public spaces and we value the right to freedom of religious expression. We also understand that those activities, and the way in which they are carried out, can sometimes cause concern, or upset.

We are considering introducing guidance for busking and street-preaching. These will help ensure that those activities are carried out in way that is respectful to others, and does not cause nuisance, such as excessive noise. Nothing in the proposed guidance “bans” these activities.

Please complete the survey below to tell us about your experiences of busking, street performance, and street preaching in the city centre, and let us know what you think about the proposed guidance.

Please read the guidance documents on this page before completing the survey.

For this consultation we are using the following definitions of Busking, Street Performing and Street Preaching:

Busking and Street Performing is the act of performing in public places to collect voluntary donations or tips from passers-by.

Religious Street Preaching is the act of communicating a religious message to the public in an outdoor or public space.

This survey is open for 4 weeks, and closes on Monday 23rd November.
