On Saturday, 5th October, at Cookson Park, the Northeast LAC organized a very successful Bike Fun Day. Families came to enjoy free BMX and scooter coaching, delivered by Onboard. Sheffield Stars provided bikes for trying out the speedway, and even our local councillors joined in the fun! Halfords was on hand offering free bike repairs, and free chips and ice creams were available throughout the afternoon. At 3 pm, experienced riders from WallerBMX put on an exciting demonstration, where young people had the chance to participate and win prizes.

Over 50 young people tried out the Cycle Speedway for the first time.

At least 5 new members joined Sheffield Stars Speedway Club.

Halfords checked and repaired over 40 bikes.

3 new riders now attend British Cycling BMX Club following the Onboard BMX Jam.

180 ice creams were served from Cuneo’s Ice Cream Van and 127 portions of chips from Smith’s Fish and Chips.

This was our first bike event in the Northeast, and due to its great success, we’re already planning a similar event for the Summer.

Through this project, we hope to promote healthy lifestyles and active travel by encouraging and helping people repair and trade bikes. By holding similar events in different parks across the Northeast Sheffield, we hope to raise the profile of the parks and attract more users.
