Consultation for Mainstream Schools and Academies Only
For 2025/26 we are proposing a 0.5% transfer (equating to an estimated £2.4m) from the Schools Block to the High Needs Block on the basis that this will increase the ability of mainstream schools to meet the needs of a growing population of children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) effectively and reduce the need for transfers to special schools.
As at the date of consultation we are still awaiting our indicative Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG) Settlement for Local Authorities from the Department for Education, so all financial amounts shared in this consultation are estimated. We expect to receive this information by the end of November.
The increased funding will be used to:
- Ensure that provision is in place for children with Education, Health, and Care Plans, in line with our statutory duties.
- Fund Strategic initiatives in localities to meet the needs of children with SEND.
