New Blue Badge parking around Union Street - March 2026
We are continuing our work on Pinstone Street, Surrey Street and Arundel Gate to create a more attractive city centre environment and make more space for people. From Friday 8 May, we will be making permanent changes to the parking bays along Union Street, Union Lane and Charles Street to help ensure the city centre is accessible for everyone. What's changing? We will convert all the pay and display parking bays to disabled parking bays. But waiting and loading restrictions in the area will still mean that drivers can pick up or drop off passengers.Although we have had to remove some other disabled parking bays elsewhere during the city centre works, such as along Surrey Street, these changes will mean ther will be more disabled parking bays in the city centre. From Saturday 16 May, the disabled parking bays will be available to Blue Badge holders and will have a maximum stay of 4 hours, with no return within 2 hours. These bays will be individually marked at 6.6 metres each. We will also install signs instructing users to keep the first and last bays clear for rear-loading vehicles. We previously advertised the Traffic Regulation Order for this work in 2024.The nearest alternative on-street pay and display parking is on Matilda Way, Earl Way and Arundel Street. You can find more information on parking in the city centre on our website.Loading baysThere will still be loading bays available along Union Street, Union Lane and Charles Street. Please make sure you plan ahead and check your journey because of these changes. We will keep this page updated as this work progresses. If you have any questions about the project, you can contact us using the details below.
