The Licensing Service is reviewing its private hire vehicle specification, including age limits, and we are now seeking your views.


Overview


The Licensing Service is responsible for the regulation of licensed private hire vehicles. In administering the regime, the Licensing Service has a publicly available policy and vehicle specification. The Licensing Service is reviewing the vehicle specification and is seeking comments.



Why are we consulting?


The current Private Hire Operator and Vehicle Licence Policy was last reviewed in November 2022.


At the request of the Waste and Street Scene Policy Committee, at its meeting on 19th July 2024, the Licensing Service was asked to review its policy on vehicle age limits.


The Licensing Service has reviewed the vehicle specification in its entirety, including age limits and emission criteria, and is now consulting on the proposed changes.


The consultation will open on 18th November 2024 for a period of 28 days.
