This winter we are planting trees across Parson Cross Southey and Longley, and we would like your help!
Why do we need more trees? Beyond simply being beautiful beautiful, trees support our mental and physical wellbeing, cool our cities, provide shade during warm weather, filter air pollution and reduce the risk of flooding.
Why do we want to work in Southey, Longley and Parson Cross? Tree Equity Score UK indicates that increased tree canopy cover is needed in these areas to deliver key tree related benefits for local people.
We have spent the summer talking to local people, community groups, parks managers, ecologists and tree experts. We have though very carefully about where trees will work well and have now got tree planting plans for parks and housing land across the area.
We will be continuing to consult residents about our plans for housing land, and have ordered the trees we need for parks. These parks trees will be planted with help from local schools and community groups, as well as at public planting days; All are welcome at these and details of upcoming events can be found on our Eventbrite page;
If you would like any further information, or to share your views on the project please contact the Community Forestry team at communityforestry@sheffield.gov.uk
