Have your say on Sheffield’s Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP)
What is the Local Area Energy Plan?
Sheffield’s Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) sets out how energy across the city can be decarbonised over an agreed time frame. It brings together evidence on buildings, heat, electricity and energy infrastructure and current and future energy needs to help plan the transition to a low carbon, affordable and resilient energy system.
The LAEP will be used to inform future investment, policy development and partnership working across Sheffield.
Why we are asking for information now
We are gathering information on planned and potential decarbonisation projects across Sheffield in the next five years. This will help us understand what is already in the pipeline and where there may be opportunities to coordinate action, investment and infrastructure planning.
The information you provide will also help us understand where emissions reductions are already taking place across the city. This will support more accurate city‑wide emissions reporting and help track progress over time.
The information you provide will be used to:
Build a clearer picture of upcoming low carbon projects
Test assumptions in the LAEP
Identify where shared solutions or support may be needed
What the questionnaire asks for
The questionnaire asks for high-level details about your top five decarbonisation projects, including:
The type of project (for example low‑carbon heating, retrofit or energy generation)
The building or site involved
Expected timescales
The likelihood of the project going ahead
Indicative impacts on gas and electricity use, where known
You do not need to provide detailed designs or business case information.
Who should complete the questionnaire
The questionnaire is intended for organisations involved in:
Managing or operating buildings and estates
Delivering or planning energy and decarbonisation projects
Supporting low‑carbon energy systems in Sheffield
This includes universities, hospitals, council teams, community energy organisations and other key stakeholders.
How to take part
Please complete the short questionnaire using the link below. It should only take a short time to fill in, and you can provide estimates where exact figures are not available.
Thank you for contributing. Your input will directly support the development of Sheffield’s Local Area Energy Plan.
