Improving Neighbourhood Junctions - side road zebra trial

Everyone should feel safe and confident when they move around their neighbourhood. This includes children, older people, people using wheelchairs or mobility aids, people with pushchairs and anyone walking or wheeling.

Through the Improving Neighbourhood Junctions project, we're working to make it safer and easier for people to cross side roads on Sharrow Lane.

We are considering changes at:

  • Fentonville Street
  • Langdon Street
  • Smeaton Street
  • Club Garden Road
  • Sharrow Street

This could include:

  • Painted zebra crossings
  • Dropped kerbs to help people using wheelchairs, mobility aids, prams and buggies
  • Tactile paving to help people with visual impairments
  • Changes to road markings

We are developing designs which would need to be approved by Sheffield City Council (SCC) and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA). If approved, we would install the crossings on a trial basis in summer 2027. The results of the trial, together with the views of local people, would help inform any future decisions.
