Developing support and prevention services for people experiencing homelessness, and multiple disadvantage.
In Sheffield there are a number of people who are either facing homelessness and housing insecurity, such as worrying about being homeless, or living somewhere that is unsafe for them, housing insecurity and homelessness are not experienced in isolation and many people also face other challenges at the same time such as having a substance misuse problem, being a victim or survivor of domestic abuse, having contact with the criminal justice system or having poor mental health. When this occurs it can bee referred to as experiencing "multiple disadvantage"
In October 2024 the Adult Health Social Care Committee of the council approved a strategy " Coordination from Complexity Sheffield's Strategy for Tackling Multiple Disadvantage". The strategy set the council with a task to remodel how we structure and deliver support to change how support is delivered from lots of services which can be difficult to navigate and access to creating a simpler model that delivers support for people earlier.
We want to design two pathways to services
- One service to support young people aged 16-25 who are at risk of or are experiencing housing instability and or homelessness with additional support needs relating to multiple disadvantages such as poor mental health, domestic abuse, substance use or experience of the criminal justice system.
- One service to support adults (25+) who are at risk of or are experiencing housing instability and or homelessness with additional support needs relating to multiple disadvantages such as poor mental health, domestic abuse, substance use or experience of the criminal justice system.
By filling in this survey you are helping us to design, deliver and evaluate services in partnership with people who have lived experience to produce a service which helps to prevent people experiencing multiple disadvantage by providing support earlier, and ensures that the support people receive is culturally informed meeting the diverse needs of our communities, respecting peoples, beliefs, cultures and identities.
The views and experiences gathered in this survey from people with lived experience, their families, our communities, partners, service providers and voluntary, charity and faith sector organisations alongside the feedback from our consultations will support our understanding of how we can provide clear pathways to support and remove barriers to accessing it and help us to shape and design our services for the future. This survey will be open for three weeks until 21st August 2025.
