Gleadless Valley Regeneration
Let's Build a Better Gleadless Valley Together
Gleadless Valley Regeneration and Heeley Trust are joining together with residents so we can make Gleadless Valley a better place to live for everybody.
Your ideas and feedback will help shape what happens next
Sheffield City Council currently has around £40 million to invest in Gleadless Valley to help make the community stronger, healthier and better connected.
These funds can be spent on improving existing homes, reimagining green spaces, and investing in local services, jobs and support. It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make long-term changes that reflect what local people want and need.
To help us connect with residents and involve as many voices as possible, we’re working in partnership with Heeley Trust and other local organisations with deep roots in the community and a strong track record of making things happen in Gleadless Valley.
This funding is just the start. We’ll also be using it to unlock more investment from Government, developers and other partners. But to make it work, we need your voice.

Big things are happening in Gleadless Valley – and the local community is at the heart of it all.
The Gleadless Valley Regeneration Programme is now gathering pace, with refresh plans being developed to improve homes, green spaces, local facilities, and job opportunities – all shaped by the people who live and work in the area.Originally launched in 2022 and led by Sheffield City Council’s Regeneration Team, the project is all about long-term change driven by local voices. A major milestone was reached in August 2024 when the Council’s Strategy & Resources Committee gave the green light to review and refresh the original masterplan, unlocking the next exciting chapter for the Valley.
A New Beginning: The Delivery Plan
At the centre of this new phase is the Regeneration Delivery Plan – a bold and practical roadmap for the next five to ten years. It’s being developed to turn shared ambitions into real-life improvements across three key neighbourhood centres: Newfield Green, Gaunt and Hemsworth, and Herdings.
The Delivery Plan is much more than a document. It marks a new beginning – a show of confidence in the future of the Valley. It will:
- Set out clear priorities and timeframes for improvements to homes, public spaces, and local services
- Attract investment and new partnerships to help fund projects
- Give communities, councillors and partners a shared vision to work towards
- Provide a detailed, costed guide so we can deliver the right things in the right way
Shaped by the Community
The plan builds on years of community conversations. From online chats to local workshops, residents have been sharing their hopes, frustrations and ideas. That feedback – along with housing and planning data – is currently with HLM architects and Arup to develop into a costed ‘feasibility’ plan. This will enable us to start to make important decisions on where to begin our investment in improving homes, communities and green spaces.
What Happens Next?
Over the summer, the design experts at HLM Architects and Arup are working closely with the Regeneration Team and the community to create detailed design options and costings for priority areas.
In August and September, residents will have the chance to get involved again – through social media, local groups, neighbourhood tours and doorstep conversations. The design team will be back in the Valley, listening, learning and testing ideas.
Then, in September and October, those ideas will come back to community members and the Regeneration Board for review. Once we’ve set the ambition, we’ll then need to take it out to the market and look to secure investors and developer who will then make the plans a reality.
This will take time, but in the shorter term, 12 – 18 months, we will begin work on making the housing improvement needed.
Be Part of the Journey
This is an exciting moment for Gleadless Valley. The Delivery Plan is not just about bricks and mortar – it’s about creating a thriving, welcoming and sustainable neighbourhood for everyone.
Whether you're a resident, a business owner, or someone who loves the Valley – your voice matters. Look out for updates in the coming weeks and help shape the future of your community.
