A direct payment is a cash payment made to you, or someone on your behalf, which you use to pay for things if you have a support plan.

We have started a Direct Payment Improvement Programme to work with local people and partners to improve the way direct payments works.

There are currently four opportunities to get involved in this programme:

1. Help us shape the choice for Direct Payments

Join the Direct Payment Market Group

We are looking for local people with experience of using direct payments or buying their own support to join our Direct Payment Market Group. You'll work with us to help shape a creative and flexible mix (or market) of care and support options in Sheffield.

The group meets monthly and works to improve and develop the market (choice of services) for people in Sheffield who buy care and support delivered by different organisations and companies to meet their needs.

If you are interested in joining the Direct Payment Market Group, please email: andy.buxton@sheffield.gov.uk or call: 0114 205 2714.

2. Interested in developing the Personal Assistant (PA) workforce?

Are you interested in helping us to make it easier for people to attract and recruit high quality Personal Assistants (PAs) in Sheffield?

If you employ PAs, or if you are a PA yourself, we want to hear from you about your experiences and ideas to develop the PA workforce.

For more information and to get involved, please email andy.buxton@sheffield.gov.uk or call: 0114 205 2714.

3. Help us to review the Direct Payment audit process

We are on the look out for local people with experience of Direct Payments to work with us to review and improve how we audit Direct Payments (check how well they are working).

We want to make sure the process is clear, simple and easy to follow and understand.

To find out more or to get involved in our regular workshops, please email: paul.edwards@sheffield.gov.uk

4. Help to design the “How to manage your Direct Payments” brochure

People have told us they would like more information about the different options for managing their Direct Payments and that this information is accessible, easy to understand and easily available.

We are looking for people to work with us to design a brochure that contains information about the different options available to manage a Direct Payment, information about the different Money Management Companies on the Recognised Provider List, as well as other information to support people to make choices which are important to them.

To find out more or to get involved, please email Lauren Beever, Performance Officer on lauren.beever@sheffield.gov.uk
