Sheffield Dignity Champions 2023

Our Dignity Champions for 2023 are:

  • Connected & Engaged Champion: Jo-Anne Van Levesley, from Darnall Well Being, for her work with people living with dementia
  • Safe & Well Champions (joint nominees): Siobhan Breithuin and Donna Turner, Sheffield City Council's learning and development team, for developing and delivering an introduction to adult social care learning programme for people facing barriers to employment
  • Efficient & Effective Champion: Christine Anderson, Adults Future Options commissioning, for her work with the local learning disabilities community
  • Active & Independent Champion: Nicola Stirling, for her coordination of dementia services at Age UK Sheffield
  • Aspire & Achieve Champion: Natalie Simmonite, apprentice social worker, for her support to someone with learning disabilities and autism, helping them to become more independent.

What are the Dignity Awards?

The Dignity Awards celebrate outstanding examples of best practice in adult social care and support in Sheffield. The Awards are open to everyone who works in Sheffield's adult care and wellbeing services including:

  • Council workers
  • Workers employed by other organisations delivering adult social care paid for by the Council
  • People Keeping Well community partners
  • Voluntary and community organisations working with adults and funded by the Council.

This includes:

  • workers delivering care and support directly to people
  • workers behind the scenes, who make sure people get the best quality support.

How the Awards are judged

These annual Awards are judged by local people with current experience of adult social care. You can express your interest in joining next year's judging panel.

The Awards are linked to the new practice quality standards for adult social care (see the video and PDF below) and were originally developed from the National Dignity Council’s Dignity Champions programme.

Who can make a nomination

Anyone can make a nomination. You could be:

  • Someone receiving support
  • A family member, friend or neighbour of someone receiving a service
  • A colleague, volunteer or manager.

How to make a nomination

Nominations for 2024 will open in the Spring.

The Dignity Awards are organised by Sheffield City Council and sponsored by the Sheffield Adult Safeguarding Partnership.
