Traffic Regulation Orders - October 2025

We advertised the Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) for the Connecting Sheffield: Castle Street project on Thursday 16 October. TROs are legal documents that allow councils to change the way roads are used.

We’re proposing Orders to introduce:

  • A loading bay which will always be usable on part of Haymarket
  • A taxi rank bay, where there will be no stopping except for taxis from 10am to midnight on part of Haymarket
  • No waiting from midnight to 10am on part of Haymarket
  • No waiting at any time on parts of Haymarket and King Street
  • A pedestrian and Cycle Zone on part of King Street, with an exemption for access to premises, and for loading and unloading
  • A pedestrian and Cycle Zone on part of King Street, with access for loading from 6pm to 10am, and access for permit holders
  • No loading from 10am to 6pm on part of King Street
  • No access for motor vehicles with no exemptions on part of King Street

And we’re proposing Orders to remove:

  • A taxi rank bay from 10am to midnight on part of Castle Street
  • No waiting at any time on part of Haymarket
  • No waiting from 8am to 8.30pm on part of King Street
  • No loading from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm on part of Haymarket

You can find a copy of the proposed Orders and plans in Proposed Traffic Orders on the Sheffield City Council website.

You can share any feedback, whether you support or object to the Orders, in writing to Jon Shortland, Interim Assistant Director, City Transport, City Futures, Howden House, 1 Union Street, Sheffield, S1 2SH. You can also respond by email to orders@sheffield.gov.uk by Thursday 13 October.

Next steps

After the feedback period closes, we will consider all comments received. If we receive any objections, we'll need to share all the feedback in a report to the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee. They will then decide whether or not to make the Orders permanent.

We will keep you updated via this page.
