The council has produced an Interim Community Buildings Policy. The policy is interim as we want to take some time to make sure we get our approach right. This includes working with local third sector organisations and talking to other authorities and partners to learn from their experience and best practice.

Our policy talks about using and leasing community buildings, including community asset transfer. Community asset transfer is when the council transfers ownership of as asset e.g. a building or land into community ownership, via a third sector organisation. Our interim policy allows for long term leases, up to a maximum of 125 years, for most purposes e.g. applying for large funding grants, an asset transfer is classed as any lease over 25 years.
