Now that the baubles have been put away and trees recycled, we would welcome your feedback regarding last year's Christmas activities in the city centre. Sheffield kicked off the Christmas countdown in style with a weekend of festive fun at Crackers for Christmas on 16 and 17 November. Those of you that took part in the celebrations enjoyed activities including big bands, Christmas choirs, dance performances, pantomime, children's costume characters, crafts and storytelling. Santa was joined by some of his cheeky elves who checked who had been naughty or nice and the reindeer and street entertainers all helped to keep the fun going.
The Christmas Market has now developed into a key element of the city centre's festive celebrations. It already attracts a range of visitors from within the city boundaries and a small number from further afield. Visitors are enticed to soak up the sights, smells and sounds as they wander around the market taking in the aroma of warming mulled wine and freshly cooked offerings, all of which can be enjoyed with festive sounds and all the sights of the Christmas illuminations, which run through the main areas starting at Castle Square, and up to Fargate, Barker’s Pool, Surrey Street, Pinstone Street and Division Street, and this year we increased the number to extend into Cambridge Street and Charles Street.
