Camera enforcement to go live - May 2026
We have been continuing work to improve bus priority along Abbeydale Road and Ecclesall Road to make bus journeys in these areas more reliable.
Last year, we installed enforcement cameras in six locations along the route. Those cameras will go live from Monday 1 June.
If we can keep bus lanes clear for buses only, it will make journeys by public transport quicker and more reliable – enabling more people to choose to travel this way.
The cameras will automatically recognise the number plates of vehicles parking in the bus lane without authorisation. We will issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to the registered keepers of vehicles that do this. Penalty charges are currently £70 but reduce to £35 if they are paid within 21 days.
During the first month of operation, we will issue warning notices to motorists whose vehicles are detected by the cameras parking in these bus lanes. This will also include people who park at bus stops in these bus lanes.
If during this period you are issued a parking PCN by a Civil Enforcement Officer while on patrol, you will be required to either pay or appeal that PCN by following the instructions on the ticket.
The cameras are in the following locations:
- Abbeydale Road on the corner of Miller Road
- Ecclesall Road near the corner of Hickmott Road
- London Road outside The Potato Oven
- London Road on the corner of Keeton’s Hill
- London Road near Bennett Street
- London Road opposite Randall Place
