Bus lane camera installation - July 2025

We’ve recently completed works at the junction of Abbeydale Road and Bannerdale Road to improve bus priority. We’ve also changed the road layout at the junction with Abbeydale Road and Tesco so buses can bypass the traffic signals, making journeys by public transport more reliable. We still need to install signage and road markings over the coming weeks.

This will include double yellow lines in the area, so vehicles don’t have to move into the bus lane or wait for oncoming traffic to pass due to parked cars.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while we've worked in these areas.

The next phase of works will see the bus lane enforcement cameras installed on Wednesday 23, Thursday 24 and Monday 28 July 2025. The bus lane cameras will automatically recognise the number plates of vehicles using the bus lane without authorisation. We will issue penalty charge notices to the registered keepers of vehicles that do this.

If we can keep bus lanes clear for buses only, it will make journeys by public transport quicker and more reliable – enabling more people to choose to travel this way.

It’s important to note that enforcement will not begin straight away.

We'll update you when we have more information about when this will start, after testing and preparation work.

We are installing cameras in the locations below:

  • Abbeydale Road on the corner of Miller Road
  • Ecclesall Road near the corner of Hickmott Road
  • London Road outside The Potato Oven
  • London Road on the corner of Keeton’s Hill
  • London Road near Bennett Street
  • London Road opposite Randall Place

We expect minimal disruption during the installation – though we may need to close parking bays or bus stops immediately next to the installation sites. If this is the case, we’ll arrange temporary bus stops and mark off any parking spaces we need access to in advance. But we do ask that if you usually park in these areas that you move your vehicle by 8am on the days we’ll be working.

It's unlikely that we’ll need to close footways for the installation work. If we do need to do this, we’ll redirect pedestrians using signage and barriers. Please look out for signage on street.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about the project, you can get in touch by email via info@connecting-sheffield.co.uk or by calling 0808 196 5105.
