Abbeydale Road double yellow line works near Archer Road junction - June 2025

Thank you to everyone for your patience while our teams have been working in the area to make bus journeys more reliable on Abbeydale Road. We are progressing well to install the ducting for bus priority, and to prepare for the road layout changes to allow buses to bypass the traffic signals at the junction with Tesco.

To improve traffic flow, and so vehicles don’t need to cross into the bus lane to avoid parked cars, we’ll install double yellow lines from the junction of Archer Road and Bannerdale Road to Troutbeck Road during week commencing 23 June. But we can only do this work in fine weather, so these dates may change.

We advertised the double yellow lines as part of the Traffic Regulation Orders, which are required to change the way roads are used, in August 2024. They were approved by the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee in December 2024 after it reviewed a report which included all the feedback we received.

We understand that the double yellow lines might result in more drivers parking on Troutbeck Road. We'll review this to understand if we need to put measures in place to manage parking on this road. We have committed funds to do this work and will update you on this in the coming weeks.

If you usually park on the stretch of road that runs from the junction of Archer Road and Bannerdale Road to Troutbeck Road, you’ll need to move your vehicle by 7.30am on Monday 23 June. This is so we can do the work as efficiently as possible, reducing the need for further disruption.
